This one’s a true North Carolina tag-team — Bright Leaf meets our buddies over in Salisbury, Cheerwine! We whipped up a homemade Cheerwine BBQ sauce and drenched it all over a bacon-wrapped, pimento-stuffed Bright Leaf Hot Bologna.
We can’t confirm it… We can’t deny it… But this might be the first pimento-stuffed bologna in human history.
All we know is: it was full of flavor and absolutely mind-blowing—a certified must-try.
Ingredients:
- (1) 16 oz. Pack of Bright Leaf Bologna
- (1) 12 oz. Pack of Bright Leaf Bacon
- Homemade Cheerwine BBQ Sauce
- Bone Suckin' Sauce "Hot Honey"
- Pimento Cheese

Cooking Instructions:
Bologna Sandwich:
- Take one slice of Bright Leaf Hot Thick Bologna and cut a slit to create a pocket.
- Take a spoonful of pimento cheese into the pocket and press it down to fill.
- Wrap the bologna with 2 slices of Bright Leaf Bacon in one direction. Then wrap 2 more slices the opposite way to form a quick bacon weave.
- Place the wrapped bologna on your smoker at 250°F and smoke for 45 minutes.
- Put the bologna on a bun and drizzle Cheerwine BBQ Sauce all over.
- Yum! And wash it down with a cold glass of Cheerwine.
How to Make Cheerwine BBQ Sauce:
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup of Cheerwine Syrup
- 1 Cup of Ketchup
- 1/4 Cup of Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1/4 Cup of Brown Sugar
- 1 Tbsp. of Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 Tsp. of Garlic Powder
- 1 Tsp. of Onion Powder
- 1 Tsp. of Paprika
- 1/4 Tsp. of Salt
- Add heat - Texas Pete
Cooking Instructions:
- Add all ingredients to a medium saucepan.
- Stir everything together and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Once it starts bubbling, reduce the heat to low.
- Let it simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens to your liking.
- Remove from heat, let cool, then use on sandwich!
